More and women have this problem. Hair loss, also known as alopecia or baldness, can be caused by a number of factors, including stress, genetics, aging, and medical conditions.
Causes
Aging: Hair loss is a normal part of aging, and it's more common in men. Your hair becomes thin as it changes it's structure. a perm won't hold as good as before perhaps.
Genetics: Hair loss can run in families.
Stress: Telogen effluvium is a type of hair loss caused by physical or emotional stress.
Medications: Some medications, such as those used for cancer, arthritis, and high blood pressure, can cause hair loss.
Hormonal changes: Pregnancy, childbirth, and menopause can all cause hair loss.
Vitamin deficiencies: Deficiencies in biotin, folate, riboflavin, and vitamin B12 have been linked to hair loss.
Tight hairstyles: Hairstyles that pull your hair tight, such as cornrows or pigtails, can cause traction alopecia.
Friction: Hair loss can occur where clothing rubs against the skin.
Treatment
Some ways to prevent and treat hair loss include: Caring for your scalp, Reducing stress, Reviewing your medications, Quitting smoking, and Protecting your hair from UV damage.
